In the historic centre of Salve, in the heart of Salento, a beautiful property is for sale consisting of a rustic building with ancient oil mill.
The property has access from via Ettore Ferramosca, where – by opening a small door – we find the first portion composed of two rooms, which are currently uncovered and for which the roof will need to be restored, plus a third room with a typical Salento vault. In the past, these rooms were used as a tool shed, hayloft and stable for working animals.
The small door on the left side of the main façade leads to a courtyard, which in turn houses access to a first large room with a star vault, a second – smaller – room with a barrel vault, a third room with a star vault that served as a kitchen, and a last collapsed room that will need reconstruction faithful to the original (star vault, also in this case).
From the room that served as the kitchen, there is an exit to a 200-square-metre garden, while at the back there is another 500-square-metre garden where – through a small portal made of carparo stone – one has access to the underground oil mill.
The oil mill, completely dug into the rock, is located underground to allow, when it was in use, the oil to be kept at the ideal temperature for separation from the processing water (18°/19°).
Inside, there is an ancient millstone, carved out of the rock excavated for the construction of the oil mill itself, some basins made of Lecce stone, some troughs and signs of the rubbing of the press, evidence of the past functioning of this hypogeum.
The renovation of the buildings could give rise to a private residence, a restaurant or a small accommodation facility.
In the garden it will be possible to build a 40 square metre swimming pool.
