In the heart of Morciano di Leuca, Salento Agency, sells an ancient oil mill where in the past both oil and wine were produced.
This beautiful ancient oil mill, in its entirety, was built in two different eras. The main part is the historical one, built in the early 1,800s and has access from Vico San Giovanni. Four central naves and three smaller ones on the left side, all characterized by beautiful ceilings with star vaults, with a height of about 4 and a half meters.
In addition to the part destined for production there is a room on the ground floor, always with star vaults, which was used as a storage room of the final product and on it, with access from an internal staircase, you reach a star-vaulted environment (with fireplace) where the workers rested and refreshed. The same staircase leads up to the terrace of the entire structure.
In the factory there are machinery and tools, testifying to the work carried out at that time, in this area of Salento. Around 1920-1930, two large rooms were built, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor.
There was a need to have a larger area to store the finished product. This extension was carried out with walls in tuff ashlars and roof with iron beams.
This area here is in very poor static conditions, so it will be necessary to demolish the roof and rebuild it from scratch. The total area between the star-vaulted part and the part built in expansion, is 700 square meters.
