CASARANO
Casarano is a municipality in the province of Lecce in Apulia, located in southwestern Salento. It has a population of around 19,000 inhabitants and an area of 38.73 km². Its territory is characterised by an altitude varying between 52 and 177 m above sea level and is mainly cultivated with centuries-old olive groves. Casarano has ancient origins and has been influenced by Byzantines, Saracens, Normans and Venetians. Among the most important monuments are the church of Santa Maria della Croce, the crypt of the Crucifix, the D’Aquino palace and the Clock Tower.
