Independent House – Traditional Salento Home for Sale in the Heart of Montesardo

In the picturesque historic center of Montesardo, Salento Agency offers for sale a charming independent house, beautifully renovated with full respect for the local architectural heritage.

The property is located just minutes from the stunning Ionian and Adriatic coastlines and features a covered surface area of approximately 90 square meters. The restoration has been carried out with meticulous attention to detail, using natural and traditional materials such as cocciopesto, which was applied throughout the flooring.

The house has two entrances on Via Torri: one leads directly to the inner courtyard, while the other opens into the bedroom.

From the main courtyard entrance, you step into a spacious room that combines a cozy living area with a work corner. This space retains an authentic period fireplace and a beautiful barrel-vaulted ceiling, carefully restored to its original splendor.

The second room serves as a dining area with a kitchenette, enhanced by two side arches and ancient wall niches discovered during the renovation. Here too, the stone vaulted ceilings add charm and authenticity.

The sleeping area includes a large double bedroom with a functional mezzanine, ideal for storage or additional sleeping space. This clever use of space also allowed for the creation of a modern bathroom and a small hallway separating the dining and sleeping areas.

Key Features:

  • Recent renovation with high-quality materials

  • Heating system with high-efficiency steel radiators and methane boiler

  • Cooling system with heat pump and split units, although the house remains naturally cool in summer

  • Auxiliary water pump to ensure optimal pressure during the summer months

  • Full network cabling throughout the house, ideal for smart working

  • Alarm system installed for added security

  • Sold fully furnished with handmade furniture in reclaimed antique teak, crafted following traditional Salento carpentry

This home is move-in ready, perfect as a primary residence or as an investment for tourist rentals. Its central location, combined with historical character and modern comfort, makes it a rare opportunity for anyone looking to experience the most authentic side of Salento.

Historical Notes on Montesardo (LE)

Montesardo is a charming hamlet of the municipality of Alessano, located in the southernmost part of the Province of Lecce, in Salento. It lies on one of the highest hills in the area – about 180 meters above sea level – which has given it strategic importance throughout the centuries. It is considered one of the oldest inhabited settlements in the Capo di Leuca region.

The origins of Montesardo date back to the Messapian era, as evidenced by the presence of a massive megalithic wall, known as the Messapian Walls of Montesardo, dating from the 4th–3rd century BC. These fortifications, still partially visible today, were likely part of a defensive and commercial settlement.

During the Roman and Early Medieval periods, Montesardo continued to hold importance, thanks to its location along the Via Sallentina, an ancient road that connected the Ionian and Adriatic ports. The name “Montesardo” appears in medieval documents and is believed to derive from the Latin Mons Arduus, meaning “steep hill,” in reference to its elevated terrain.

In the Middle Ages, Montesardo became a fortified center, home to a castle and several churches. Among them, the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate stands out, with its modest yet impressive façade, along with the Franciscan convent, now deconsecrated but rich in history.

The village has retained its original urban structure, with narrow cobbled streets, stone houses, and noble palaces. Today, it is a fascinating destination for those wishing to immerse themselves in the rich history and authentic atmosphere of southern Salento.
